MOSCOW (RNWire) - Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, announces the release of three new versions of Kaspersky(r) Anti-Virus designed to protect email and file servers, as well as workstations, running on the Linux, FreeBSD and Open BSD operating systems - Kaspersky Anti-Virus Version 5.5 for Linux, FreeBSD and OpenBSD Mail Server, Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux, FreeBSD and OpenBSD File Server, and Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux, FreeBSD and OpenBSD Workstation. Version 5.5 includes technological and architectural changes.

These solutions detect and neutralize malicious code in all objects on file servers, workstations and mail servers. User friendly features include flexible antivirus protection configuration and automatic uploading of antivirus database updates.

Kavmonitor (on-access scanner), a completely new component, supports real time system scanning, and identifies and quarantines all suspicious objects, thereby minimizing the likelihood of malware infiltration into a network.

In the updated version it is possible to choose between three types of antivirus databases - standard, exposed and super secure. Riskware - that is, adware and/or legal software, such as remote administration tools that can be used by hackers and other potentially hostile programs - are detected using the latter two options.

New technologies have been implemented in the antivirus database and application update module, which include integrity and usability checks for downloaded databases. This reduces network traffic and improves product performance.

A number of innovations have noticeably improved productivity for the Workstation, File Server and Mail Server solutions. The iChecker technology, first introduced by Kaspersky Lab for Windows products is now available for Linux, FreeBSD and OpenBSD as well. iChecker implements check-summing to support antivirus scanning of modified files only, which significantly decreases system load. Moreover, the option to scan the file system in background mode decreases system load even further.

System administrators will appreciate the improved management options, such as simplified installation and de-installation procedures. Specifically, it is now possible to import settings from older versions of Kaspersky Anti-Virus (4.0 or 5.0) when installing Version 5.5. Likewise, administrators can now create backup directories to store suspicious and infected objects until they decide whether to disinfect or delete them.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux, FreeBSD and OpenBSD Mail Server is closely integrated with the Workstation and File Server solutions, and contains the same new functionalities. However, specific components for the Mail Server solution have been upgraded in Version 5.5. The Mail Server solution scans all incoming and outgoing SMTP traffic, which neutralizes malware in infected messages. New configuration options allow administrators to filter mail according to predefined rules. Additionally, the licensing module for Mail Server now updates the list of licensed users automatically.

Administrators can also now maintain statistics on malware penetration via the built-in Webmin interface. Statistics are generated graphically and it is possible to create reports on the types of malware detected during specified intervals.

Additional information about Kaspersky Anti-Virus Version 5.5 for Mail Server, File Server and Workstations for Linux, FreeBSD and OpenBSD can be found on the product page. http://www.kaspersky.com/products

Cruxwall cwsetup script in progress

Monday, June 20, 2005
It's a long time out station for me even though just for a one week. Currently the cwsetup script for cruxwall installation that I've done just workup nicely but with a little bit of minor problem with it progress bar..

It can locate mounted ROOT partition and extract the cruxwall base system to the ROOT partition. I just thought to include saveral additional CRUX packages like base, contrib and option packages for the purpose of serveral type of public servers like we and mail, It could be CRUXWALL optimized dedicated server distro.

But the main target right now for CRUXWALL is to be linux firewall distro with simple installation, configuration and administration system, while papit still strugle with krazhbox and awdwall (shorewall webgui administration) and for me, next weekend we will upload new source with little modification and additional packages. The modularized kernel will be include as a saperate base package so user can choose either to compile they own kernel or to use CRUXWALL modularized ready made kernel.. :P "can I say like that" So with modularized kernel any laziest user can setup CRUXWALL in a minute but make sure first that your hardware is supported. Soon we will publish the hardware list that supported by CRUXWALL after final test drive :P
